Trincomalee Sri Lanka
Trincomalee is a historic port city located on the north-eastern coast of Sri Lanka, in the Eastern Province. It is built around Trincomalee Bay, one of the finest natural deep-water harbours in the world, which has given the city immense strategic and commercial importance for over 2,000 years.
In ancient times, Trincomalee was known as Gokanna and later as Thirukonamalai, becoming a major centre of trade, religion, and maritime activity. During the colonial era, Trincomalee was occupied by the Portuguese, Dutch, French, and British, each recognizing the value of its harbour.
