Kitulgala Sri Lanka
Kitulgala is a small town located in the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka, set along the banks of the Kelani River. The name Kitulgala is derived from the “Kitul” palm (Caryota urens), which has long been an important natural resource for local communities. The sap of this palm is traditionally used to produce jaggery and treacle, making it historically significant to village life and agriculture.
Historically, Kitulgala lay on an important route connecting the central highlands of Kandy with Colombo, and it served as a transit point for spices and other goods during the Kandyan Kingdom era.
